A Journey to Baja
- Changes the lives for local children
The Mexican coast is one of the most beautiful in the world. Who can resist frequent glimpses at the sea while driving south, approaching Ensenada?
Yet, with the new high rises and luxury homes gracing the coastline, a picture of wealth spreading south, there is another picture which captured the attention of Walt and Tatiana Eckstein.
Their journey to Mexico started in the summer of 2004 when, on a work trip with 35 others from Palmdale, California, to assist in a work project, made a discovery which would forever change their lives.
The plight of the needy captured their hearts and they moved to Mexico to give the rest of their lives in service to God.
In June of 2006 they started Baja Christian Fellowship, the “hub” of numerous outreaches, which include “Spirit filled” English and Spanish services, 10 am and 12 noon and a schedule of ministry to the Oaxacan migrant camps.A large commercial kitchen has been built at the facility located 3.4 miles from hwy.1 in maneadero on the road to la bufadora.
Food is prepared in the kitchen, loaded into a catering truck and taken to the camp where a team of workers have been for more than an hour, teaching the children.
As the food is unloaded and placed on tables, the children line up and are given a plate of hot rice, beans, a stew of chicken, beef or pork, Tortillas and a desert of jello with a cup of punch. After the children are fed, their mamas and men, not in the fields, are fed.
Plans are to acquire an eight-foot by fourteen-foot cargo trailer to be used as a portable chapel and clothes closet. On each site, the JESUS FILM and other movies will be shown. Audio tapes of the Gospel will be distributed free of charge.
Showers with hot and cold water have been built at Baja Christian Fellowship for use by the migrants where the children can be bathed and dressed whit a new outfit.
Ultimately, the goal includes classrooms where Oaxacan children can be Taught how to read and write And where the classrooms will function as chapels on Sundays.
Walt and Tatiana welcome others who love Jesus, who love people and who have a servants heart to join with them in being the “hands of Jesus.” Baja Christian Fellowship is not a traditional church but is a team of Christians dedicated to the Great Commission of Jesus.
